Peace be with you السلام عليكم

I had a new initiative with a couple of sisters I know.  After seeing how successful HalfDate had become (another awesome sadaqah promotion site) we decided to do the same but focus on women's issues.  Not too long ago my friends and I removed a sister from a dangerous and abusive situation and as we were looking for help we realized that there was virtually none.  There are even fewer resources for non-profits and other organizations that help Muslim women and we want to help them flourish.  So every month we will focus a deserving non-profit and their project and help them achieve their goal whether it be monetary, du'as or with items like canned goods or coats for the winter.

2:274 (Y. Ali) Those who (in charity) spend of their goods by night and by day, in secret and in public, have their reward with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.

ps. Reminder of why it is important

The women are here for many reasons. It’s a sanctuary and an escape. It’s also a place where they can live and pray without having their faith questioned.
My biggest problem was that if you send a Muslim woman to be counseled in a shelter that’s run by Christians, then what the people say is the reason why you’re being beat is because of that religion. We do not want Islam to be the focal point of domestic violence,” Hanif said.
Indeed, domestic violence knows no religion, but not all shelters are sensitive to Muslims, Hanif said.

salaam alaikum,

What a wonderul idea and way of helping out our fellow sisters in islam escape from abusive relationships and empower them. Before I moved to spain I worked with women in abusive relationships and one woman was muslim with 5 children and unfortutely I wasnt the counselor who worked with her (I was the only muslim working there). She became influenced by the christian counselors and residents and took off her hijab with the encouragement of staff members. So sad. So many muslim women stay in abusive relationships and have no where to go but shelters run by non-muslims. They are then forced to eat what the non muslim residents are eating, and easily become influenced. We as muslims should spend more money on opening up shelters and counseling programs run by (non cultural muslims I might add who dont blame the woman and tell her to stay and be patient). Im glad you and your friends are spreading the word. May Allah swt reward you, ameen.
